Which Jewellery Will Pair with SS18’s Fashion Trends?

With London Fashion Week and other major fashion events now done, we know a lot more about what the major trends for Spring/Summer 2018 will be. Moving away from dark neutral tones, SS18 promises to be a colourful season, and this can make it tricky to accessorise without looking over the top. Here are a few tips of SS18’s biggest trends, and what types of jewellery to pair them with.

Macs

Rain macs are back in style, which is great for those who want to look on-trend while still being weather appropriate. You can choose a wide range of styles, whether it’s a pretty floral print, metallic-tones, or even bright yellow. Finding designer jewellery to go with this look is tricky. Ideally, you’ll need something that makes a big impression, such as a charm bracelet with chunky beads so that it’s not outshone by your colourful mac.

Squares and checks

Checked patterns have been in style for a while now, but the look is now moving away from gingham to larger, statement squares. This could be seen all over the SS18 catwalks, from trousers to women’s jewellery which had a lot of square-cut styles. If you don’t think you can pull of a square print on your clothing, look for a printed bag, or jewellery with coloured, square-cut gems for a modern look.

Sequins

You may associate sequins with Christmas party dresses, but they’re coming to everyday looks in SS18. Sequins pair well with anything blinging, so you can add a pair of designer earrings to finish the look. If you’re feeling bold, you can even wear a party dress during the day, but tone it down with sandals.

On the catwalk, sequins were seen on:

  • Tops and dresses
  • Slogan tops
  • Jackets and boleros
  • Ankle boots

Bows

Many catwalk looks were finished off with a big bow, whether it was pussy bows at the neck, or a big over the top bow at the waist, there’s a number of ways to wear bows. Following on from the ladylike trend that has been popular for the last couple of years, bows are best worn with a polished look, for example paired with peg trousers. Keep the jewellery classic, perhaps with designer rings that add a luxe look to your outfit.

Yellow

AW17 saw lots of mustard tones, and the style is set to evolve into bold, bright yellows in SS18. Yellow is an excellent colour for a statement dress, or can be used sparingly against a monochrome pallet. When wearing yellow, opt for yellow gold jewellery which will blend in with the brighter tone. If you’re choosing designer pendants, then consider looking for one with yellow-tone gemstones. Canary diamonds have a timeless style, but if they are out of your price range, then yellow sapphires or citrines also work really well.
